At Webeo, we are passionate about giving back. We regularly host organization-wide events and run activities to raise money for charities that mean a lot to our team. On Friday 25 October 2019, Webeo hosted a charity ball to raise money for Building Schools for Africa — a cause we’ve worked with in the past that’s extremely close to our hearts. The ball was held in the incredible Mary Rose Suite at the Marriott Hotel Portsmouth, and was hosted by Webeo founders Paul Thomas and Henry Braithwaite. Starting with dinner and drinks, followed by a raffle during dessert, a talk from Building Schools for Africa Trustee Marianne Johnson, and a charity auction, the evening was heart-warming and successful all round. Managing Director Paul Thomas introduced Marianne Johnson, Secretary of Building Schools for Africa, and long-standing trustee of AidCamps International — the charity from which Building Schools for Africa evolved.

Paul said: “The charity ball was a really amazing evening, enjoyed by all those in attendance. We raised money for a cause that we are genuinely passionate about, and we had a great time doing so. It was an honor having Marianne Johnson from the charity in attendance — we are so very grateful she came along and loved to hear first-hand what the money raised is used for.”

Guests arrived at The Marriott Hotel at 7pm, and were welcomed with champagne at 7.30pm. Dinner was served from 7.45pm before the raffle and auction commenced — with luxurious and exciting prizes to bid on and be won by attendees. Raffle prizes included a cocktail masterclass, bungee jumping, and a whole host of exciting packages — from a Spa Day package to a ‘Winning at Parenting’ package. And, the auction included a Porsche driving experience, VIP Victorious tickets, and a plane flight experience and lunch at The Kennels, to name just a few. So, there was definitely something to appeal to every taste! The event saw a great turnout, with 170 guests in attendance. And, thanks to everyone’s generous contributions, the event managed to raise a total of £24,000 for Building Schools for Africa.

Paul said: “The auction was successful — we saw money being donated for everything from an afternoon tea at the De Vere Cotswold hotel to a long weekend in Dubai. There was truly something for everyone and seeing just how generous people can be for a good cause is really something special. We are always proud of the charitable efforts of our team, and events like the charity ball reinforce just how important giving back is to the organization as a whole.”

He added: “I’m really pleased to have seen such a great turnout, and I hope that everyone had just as much fun as Henry and I did hosting it! I want to say a big thanks to those who helped organize the event, from the everything behind-the-scenes to ensuring everyone was involved and interested. It is a pleasure to see everyone working as one team to put on a really brilliant event.”

He added: “At Webeo, we’re big on improving, challenging and always doing more. This year, we managed to raise a total of £24,000 from the charity ball alone. That’s a fantastic result! Let’s see if at next year’s event we can do even better.”


With a DJ provided by Mike Sullivan Entertainment, and an appearance from The Lionels — one of the most sought after function bands in Britain — the Webeo team was able to relax and enjoy an evening of fun, dancing and socializing with colleagues and friends. The team has been involved in charity work from the outset — both inside and outside of work. Members of the Webeo team have taken part in everything from long-haul cycling challenges, mountain climbing and skydives to organization-wide fundraisers, events and dress-down days.
